If You Build It, They Will Come
The Junction -
Inc.2004 - was created by the Belvin brothers, Don and John and their
wives Coleen & Kristin, to bring quality outdoor live entertainment to central
Maine.
They bought property outside of Brownville Jct. where an old store and
farmhouse had been
left vacant for many years. After a lot of blood, sweat and tears, the store
reopened.
Within the first
year the Belvins realized there had to be a better draw of people or they
may not survive. With Don being in the music business and John being a
carpenter, the two set off to
build Big Pine Amphitheatre. They designed a stage and hired many quality bands
from far away to come
play behind the store.
Some concerts
drew as many as 2,000 people while others didn't fare as well.
They learned a lot about advertising and word of mouth......the rest is history.
They later
installed a drive-in movie theatre with wireless radio. Camping came naturally
to
the brothers and the Belvins worked on creating campsites after hours.
Due to a slow
economy and the recession, in fall of 2008 the Belvins decided to sell the
business and
go back to work out of state. The business didn't sell that winter and by spring
the emails started
coming in saying, "Please have concerts next summer because there's not
much else to do."
Lots of previous fans asked us not to give up, so we rolled the dice once
more.
We called a press release and people came. The Junction had
its best summer in the midst
of economic turmoil in the country.
The Junction thanks all past, present and future patrons who share in the fun of
quality outdoor
entertainment combined with outdoor adventure in the wild of central Maine.
Our goals for the future are: cabins, pool, electric, water, gas, bathhouse, lounge / meeting hall.
